Behind The Scenes: COVID-19 Testing For the PGA European Tour
COVID-19 testing for the Elite Sports Industry is an important sector to provide testing for, without which athletes would not be able to compete and fans would not be able to enjoy any sporting events. Not to mention the economic threat of such a large industry grinding to a halt.
At Cignpost Diagnostics we offer mobile testing, which means we can safely test at sporting events around the World. In June 2020, we were able to provide a COVID-19 testing solution for The European Tour, a world-renowned golfing tournament.
How Have Cignpost Diagnostics Have Been Working With The PGA European Tour?
The PGA European Tour hosts some of the most prestigious golf events in the world, including BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth course. It is arguably one of the most famous golf tours in the world, with elite pro golfers such as Tommy Fleetwood, Lee Westwood and Justin Rose competing.
At the events there would be upwards of 100 golfers as well as caddies, coaches and golf equipment representatives. Not to mention the TV crews and hosts documenting the events, all of which needing COVID-19 tests. Our involvement in the tour saw a PGA vehicle double up as a mobile testing lab, fit with state of the art equipment and enough space on board for 5 scientists. Which meant up to 1,000 tests could be processed each day on site.
Cignpost Diagnostics Rapid On-Site Testing
When working with global industry giants it’s important to provide testing for COVID-19 that is fast, efficient and provides results on site. Swab results can come back within 4 hours in most cases, using World-class CE-IVD equipment with Gold Standard accuracy and sensitivity. Rapid On-site COVID-19 testing can be scheduled around you with a laboratory on location at all times.
It’s also important to note that while testing is going on, you must still adhere to Government Guidelines on social distancing, as well as regularly washing your hands and wearing masks where appropriate to stop the spread of COVID-19.
A Testimonial From The European Tour
‘If you look at the process that we have put in place with Cignpost Diagnostics it’s about decreasing risk. When they arrive at the venue everyone gets a temperature check, they also have a PCR test that’s taken and only takes 2-4 hours to get back, which is much faster than any other professional sport.’— Dr Andrew Murray, European Tour
